Coming out of the Great Depression, and soon delving into World War II, Americans had little money to spare. This menu style catered to that necessity.This service was designed in 1948 as a quick alternative to regular food operation. It replaced traditional plates, utensils, and cups for speedy access. Richard McDonald demanded efficiency, leaving no time for idling orders. Carhops proved faulty because female employees would attract unruly teenagers. Removing this practice, they slimmed worker count and prices, enabling them to serve a wider audience. Kroc expanded this into franchises worldwide, making it palatable to prospective investors.
